Music in Uganda

As we gather books for our three schools, it's nice to take a moment to celebrate the culture of the country. Ugandan music is as diverse as landscape and the people. In addition to the music that gets your blood pumping in the clubs, the country is home to more than 30 different ethnic groups who all have their own style of music. But one thing that unites all the music of Uganda is most certainly the drum.  Children are even called to school by the sound of the drum!

This drum-like instrument is actually called a bow harp or an adungu, and is the traditional instrument of the Alur people of northwestern Uganda.  This gentleman entertained us as we waited for the vehicle to be filled with gas. Not a bad way to pass time at the filling station.
