Library Building Progress
It's been a big week for our Library project, both here in Sacramento and 9,000 miles away in Entebbe, Uganda. It's the rainy season in Uganda, but, in spite of the weather challenges, they are managing to raise the walls on the future Library. It's exciting to see their progress and imagine that soon these walls will hold the books that we are collecting here in the States.
First, we picked up the books that the students at Sutterville Elementary School collected. In only one week, these students collected thousands of books. They went through books at home, some purchased books for us, and some even went to their neighbors to ask for books! Wow! We brought one pickup truck to cart the books away and it wasn't nearly enough. We still have a huge number of books waiting to be picked up! It was an amazing achievement.
At this point, we had enough books to start the sorting process. Thankfully, students from the Sacramento Presbyterian College group, the Gathering, offered to help us out. They worked hard for nearly three hours! We want to be sure that the books we send are age-appropriate, in good condition and that the reference books don't have out-dated information. Because we are paying to ship each book we want to be sure that we're sending the best books that we can.
We still have a lot more work to do before we're ready to ship but we are getting closer to making sure that the students at Daystar have a fantastic Library!
